Appropriate ornament wording?

Each year since we met, I've bought my husband an ornament for our tree. The first year, it simply said "they met", the year we got engaged, it said "they promised" and when we were married, it said "they wed". This year, my mother-in-law lost her battle with cancer and my husband, knowing I'm going to get another ornament, requested that it allude to that. My question is, how do I put that in one word, without it seeming completely sad (ie. they mourned or they lost), because we are happy that she is no longer in pain and will celebrate this Christmas with the real Reason for the season. Any suggestions?
