i agree with going to the county clerk for records also try to find out how old your house is. this may help you to find out what has happened in the house throughout the years around your neighborhood. lets say your neighbor is 70 years old and lived there his whole life and the house is 60 years old. your neighbor may recall anything unusual happening there or perhaps may have heard some rumors about the house being haunted. also you may want to find previous owners names and call the local cemeteries by your house to see if they are buried there. then see if you can locate some of the sons and daughters of previous owners, write down the names of previous owners and use them as a reference when asking people that may be their offspring. the cemetery info comes in handy seeing if the offspring are buried with their parents,also on a lot of tombstones you can find maiden names,which may help in tracking down descendants,this is valuable when you have to locate several generations of descendants. you should not be afraid of what you dont know, but you should welcome it.
